Law Foundation

Requirements:

The qualifications required for admission to the Law Foundation programme are: 


Local - 5 passes AND Credit pass for English

Cambridge - 5 D passes AND C pass for English

Pearson Edexcel - 5 Grade 3 passes AND Grade 4 pass for English 


OR


Equivalent qualifications acceptable to APIIT/Staffordshire University 


  • Applicants are individually assessed where the basic criteria are not met, but oher qualifications or work experience is present 
  • Those who wish to enter the legal practice in Sir Lanka require a Credit pass in Sinhala/Tamil at GCE Ordinary Level examination and also need 2 Credit passes and 1 Simple pass at the GCE Advanced Level examination

The APIIT Sri Lanka Law Foundation programme is an APIIT Sri Lanka award approved by Staffordshire University, UK as an entry qualification for the Staffordshire University Law degree programmes offered at APIIT. It is designed to inculcate study skills and practices based on sound educational methods, while instilling responsibility for studies in all students. The programme introduces students to the field of Law, providing students with an appreciation of law and its application to real-world problems, while developing numerate, digitial literacy, and communication skills. 


The Law Foundation programme prepares students with GCE O/L qualifications who do not wish to puruse GCE A/L studies or those with inadequate GCE A/L qualifications to enter the Staffordshire University Law degree programmes. 


The overall rationale of the programme is to prepare students to pursue and complete satisfactorily the degree studies leading to the awards in Law. 


Teaching & Learning


A diverse range of teaching strategies including lectures, group discussions, presentations, debates, assignments, movement, and a unique project showcase are utilised to develop students’ knowledge and competencies in relation to fundamentals of Law, digital literacy, analytical skills and numeracy, communication and language skills, and responsibility and ethics. Students are trained to work both in groups and independently during their course of study.
